HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Welcome back.  It's the second day back, and already we're back into routine and exploring our learning centers.

Today we started our experiment inquiry into life cycles and have set up the tanks for our Sea Monkeys and Triops.  We'll find out soon which will hatch first and how big our sea creatures will get.

We've also been exploring the snow and looking at it through magnifying glasses, exploring snow's properties, painting snow with food colouring and experimenting on how to melt it.

We've started writing some "SUPER SENTENCES" in our Writer's workshop and are exploring the "AT" word family.  Ask your child if they can think of some "at" words at home (e.g., bat, cat, hat, etc.).

We're finishing up our unit on Data Management and Graphing and have started to produce abstract graphs on paper (e.g., bar graph) instead of concrete graphs.  We'll begin exploring numbers and number properties next week.  We'll be focussing on numbers 0 to 10.

I am in the process of testing students' reading levels and Reading Rainbow word knowledge.  Stay tuned for the mini-reports coming home to tell you how your child is doing.

Welcome to 2013.  It brings changes to our school, new opportunities and more learning explorations. May your New Year grant you health, happiness and opportunities for your own personal growth.

Thank you for all your support.  Please don't hesitate to contact Mrs. Morrow or myself if you have any questions or concerns.

Yours in partnership,
Tereena Clarke
